
Amanda Newins is a distinguished criminal and traffic defense attorney with more than a decade of experience in criminal law. Drawing upon her background as a prosecutor, judicial officer, and defense attorney, she provides strategic and effective representation to clients facing serious criminal and traffic charges throughout Virginia.
Before entering private practice, Amanda served as a prosecutor for the City of Chesapeake, where she prosecuted misdemeanor and felony offenses and tried numerous cases before judges and juries. Earlier in her career, she served with the United States Coast Guard Legal Service Command and as a Magistrate Judicial Officer for the Supreme Court of Virginia, gaining valuable experience in military law, criminal procedure, search warrants, and bond determinations. Amanda’s experience as a prosecutor, judicial officer, and defense attorney provides a distinct strategic advantage, providing her with the insight necessary to craft strategic, effective, results-driven legal solutions.
A Hampton Roads native, Amanda earned her Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies and Mathematics from James Madison University while working as a 9-1-1 dispatcher. She received her Juris Doctor from Regent University School of Law, where she distinguished herself in trial advocacy.
In addition to her legal practice, Amanda is deeply committed to the Hampton Roads community. In 2022, she was elected to the Chesapeake City Council, becoming the youngest council member in the city’s history. She is a Past President of the Chesapeake Bar Association and the Women’s Division of the Chesapeake Chamber and has served in numerous leadership roles throughout the Hampton Roads community.
Amanda has been recognized as a Top Lawyer by Coastal Virginia Magazine, selected as a Virginia Rising Star by Super Lawyers, honored as Woman of the Year by the Women’s Division of the Chesapeake Chamber, and recognized by the Virginia State Bar with both the Significant Service Award and the Pro Bono Service Award.
